The Copperhead softball team will be in action this afternoon at 3 p.m. vs Libby for their season and home opener at Charlotte Yeoman Martin Sports Complex.

The Copperhead softball team will brave the cold and rain today to kick off their season and home opener against Libby today at 3 p.m.

The weather is nothing new for the ‘Heads early in the spring season in Southwest Montana, and if anything they usually expect some sort of inclement pattern during the first few weeks of the year at Charlotte Yeoman Martin Sports Complex.

Their is strength in numbers for Anaconda, returning their starting battery and a healthy offense that may not be able to compete with last years power numbers but is still a solid collection of hitter.

Senior pitcher Michaela Cortright and catcher Hanna Schaffer will be the primary reason Anaconda is again going to compete for a district, divisional and possibly a state trophy.

The entire infield is being replaced due to graduation, but all but one position has varsity experience from a year ago. Junior Sydnie Peterson moves in from the outfield to short stop, sophomore Ashley Gates, who will also pitch this season, will be at second base and a collection of sisters will be on the corners — freshman Audrey Forsberg at third and junior Johannah Forsberg at first.

Junior Carley Fink will get the start in left in her first year as a Copperhead, sophomore Erin Chapman will return to center and junior Raegan Johnson will play right field.

Head coach Dotsie Shaffer will again lead the team along with assistant coaches Tod Chapman and Matt Mavrinac.

Do you feel like it’s too cold to go to the game? Park on the outside of the complex and tune into every Copperhead home game on KANA 580 AM, or by downloading the live streaming App on your Google Play or Apple app stores.
