Copperheads bats come alive, take out Eureka

Anaconda wasted no time earning their first win of the season, thumping Eureka 20-7 Saturday at Charlotte Yeoman Martin Sports Complex.

Coming off a tough loss to Libby Friday afternoon, the Copperheads (1-1) wasted no time getting rolling on Saturday. Anaconda pounded out 14 hits and saddled Avory Escobar with 17 earned runs in the mercy-rule victory.

Johanna Forsberg led the team with three hits and three RBIs including a standup trip. Erin Chapman, Hannah Schaefer, Carley Fink and Reagan Johnson all accounted for two hits while starting pitcher Michaela Cortright led the team with four RBIs.

Anaconda’s offensive onslaught was aided by seven Lady Lions errors.

Cortright got her first win of the year allowing seven hits with eight strikeouts.

Anaconda will be back in action Thursday, April 6, at home against Drummond for a nonconference doubleheader.
