Copperheads blank Ronan in five, win streak reaches six

Anaconda welcomed Ronan for their 6B district opener Tuesday at Charlotte Yeoman Martin Sports Complex and made short work of the Maidens. The Copperheads drew 13 walks, the last of which earned freshman Audrey Forsberg the walk-off, 10-0 winner with two outs in the bottom of the fifth.

Only with five hits on the afternoon, Anaconda (6-1, 1-0) managed to end it early due to the mercy rule. Sophomore Ashley Gates went 1-for-1 with two RBIs and Sydnie Peterson, Michaela Courtright, Maddison Collinsworth and Forsberg all added a hit each offensively.

Cortright moved to 6-1 on the season in a dominant three-hit shutout. She worked effectively with her second 10-strikeout performance of the season on just 80 pitches while only walking one batter.

Ronan’s Marissa Mock earned the loss, allowing three hits, eight earned and issued nine walks.

Anaconda will be back in action Thursday as they travel to Missoula Loyola for a varsity doubleheader Thursday starting at 2 p.m. There will be no radio coverage available during the doubleheader.

The next games available for broadcast will be the nonconference game against Butte Central in Butte May 2 at 4 p.m.
